Next week, the Tulane University Police Department (TUPD) is co-hosting the Southeast and Southwest Regional Conference of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators. More than 50 universities from 20 states in addition to Louisiana will be represented at the conference in New Orleans Jan. 20 – 23.

“This is an important conference as it brings campus law enforcement administrators from across the country together in an effort to network, discuss best practices in campus policing, but most importantly, bring in subject matter experts to talk about topics such as The Clery Act, Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act and the newly formed National Center for Campus Public Safety,” says Jon Barnwell, superintendent of TUPD

Experts including representatives from D. Stafford and Associates and Margolis Healy and Associates, who are professional consulting firms specializing in campus safety, security and regulatory compliance, will be speaking at the conference

Reid B. Noble, a captain with TUPD and interim uptown district commander, says a committee has been organizing the program.

Topics presented in the breakout sessions are appealing to not only campus communities but to city, state and national entities, Noble says. Exhibitors and vendors from different companies range from security and equipment products to technology services and programs.

“Local law enforcement and security agencies are also planning to be in attendance, promising a multitude of networking possibilities,” Noble says.

Several speakers from various departments of Tulane University are presenting sessions, including Barnwell and James B. Letten, assistant dean for experiential learning at the Tulane Law School.
