Trombone Shorty Academy

Leroy Learson warms up his chops Monday afternoon (Jan. 14) in Dixon Hall as he prepares to audition for the Trombone Shorty Academy, an after-school program that targets underserved high school students who are musically gifted. Sitting to his right is music teacher Rachel Patton. Launched by New Orleans musician Troy "Trombone Shorty" Andrews and operated in partnership with the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South at Tulane University, the academy will instruct in traditional New Orleans music. Learson is an 11th-grade student at Lake Area New Tech Early College High School.
