Bead tree

A tree on the Gibson Quad is decorated with Carnival beads. Although Mardi Gras won't be celebrated until Feb. 12, the Carnival season is officially under way. Sunday (Jan. 6) was Twelfth Night, the feast of the Epiphany and traditional beginning of the Carnival season. These photographs were taken shortly after last year's Mardi Gras, when the beads clinging to the tree's branches were at their most plentiful. The "bead tree" has become something of a yearly tradition on the uptown campus.
