Gisele Amanda Calderon is from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Her proposed major is Biomedical Engineering and she is interested in researching tissue engineering.
She is a member of the Tulane Women's Swimming and Diving Team, specializing in the butterfly stroke. In high school, she graduated as valedictorian, served as Mu Alpha Theta president and Science Club vice president, received the Beta Service Award, was named an AP Scholar, and earned first honors by National Merit Commended. In Spring, 2010, Giesele earned the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal for the 2009-10 academic year. Medals are given to those C-USA student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
During the 2011 summer, Gisele is interning with the Louisiana Biomedical Research Network (LBRN), where she will work on freezing techniques of liver tissue cells.
