Thisbe Nissen, the 19th Zale Writer-In-Residence, grew up in Manhattan and attended Oberlin College in the hopes of obtaining a degree in creative writing. Since receiving her masters degree from the University of Iowa, Nissen has taught a fiction course at the Iowa Young Writers' Workshop, a intensive creative writing program, in the hopes of inspiring the world's future authors. However, Thisbe Nissen does not reserve her teaching abilities simply for the young; she has also taught at the Iowa Writers' Workshop, the Annual Writers in Paradise at Eckerd College, Brandeis University, and has just recently returned to her home state of New York to teach at Columbia University.
Thisbe Nissen currently lives in Iowa City, Iowa where she is hard at work on her newest novel.
