The Nominating Committee of the Newcomb Alumnae Association is pleased to announce the following slate of new officers:

Vice President for New Orleans: Meredith Feike Crane, PhD, NC’01, New Orleans, LA

♣    Adjunct Professor of Anthropology, Tulane University

♣    Instructor of Anthropology, Delgado Community College

♣    Published author in the Social Sciences

♣    Interviewer, Newcomb Oral History Project

♣    Louise S. McGehee School Alumnae Association Executive Board Member

”Volunteerism has been an integral part of my life since my days as a student at Louise S. McGehee, a school that has as its motto, Noblesse Oblige. H. Sophie Newcomb Memorial College contributed greatly to my success in personal, academic, and professional endeavors. Thus, I have a vested interest in carrying on the legacy and unique traditions of Newcomb College, while working diligently to enrich the undergraduate experience of women at Tulane. I believe alumnae participation is paramount in securing the resilience and long-term sustainability of the Newcomb College Institute. Actively observing excellence in student programming and the diverse opportunities for leadership experience offered to TU women by the Institute, fuels my resolve to remain involved and support the next generation of female leaders, innovators, and activists.”

”Newcomb was such a large part of my time at Tulane, and I want to make sure that women at Tulane now are able to continue to benefit from Newcomb’s programs as well new opportunities that are relevant to them.  It’s also important to me to bring alumnae together with each other and current students to build networks of strong women to maintain the legacy of Newcomb.

The Newcomb Alumnae Association Board must be a vigilant steward of the funds in the NAA account and to ensure that they are used in a way that will advance the mission of the NAA.  The NAA must also work to raise the funds necessary to support the programs and services offered to its members and to expand its work and its reach in the Newcomb alumnae community.”

These exceptional women will be elected to their new positions at the annual meeting of the Newcomb Alumnae Association on Friday, November 2, 2012 in New Orleans. Each position is a two-year term.

The Nominating Committee of the NAA is now soliciting nominations for candidates to serve as:

1.    President

2.    Vice President for Alumnae

3.    Secretary

A member of the Alumnae Association can nominate herself or another member of the Association for these offices. The term of office for these positions is January 2013 – January 2015.

Nominations must be made with the written permission of the individual being nominated. Nominations may be submitted via e-mail to:

Nominations must include a written bio or resume of the candidate being recommended as well as the written permission of the proposed candidate. The deadline for receiving nominations from the membership is the close of business on July 1, 2013.
