The material has been placed in nine storage containers that correspond to the boxes the material was received in. All attempts have been made to preserve original order.
All material has been refoldered and some metal fasteners have been removed. Much of the material was received arranged in three-ring folders. This material was removed and placed in folders. If the material in the three-ring folder required more than one folder, the folders were labeled with the same heading and renumbered.
Inventory with folder descriptions is available in the repository.
Emily Card, a graduate of Newcomb, class of 1963, has maintained a longtime commitment to lobbying for equal credit access for women. As an assistant to Senator Brock of Tennessee, she was the author of the Equal Credit Act; she also worked with HUD to assure equal access to housing. As a professor at the University of Southern California, she researched state and federal credit information. Later she continued her expertise in the area of finance and credit as a financial columnist for Ms. Magazine, a cable television talk show host, and an author. She was the host of "It's Your Money," a show on Lifetime television, emphasizing women's finances. She has written two books: Staying Solvent, written as a credit guide for women, and The Ms. Money Book.
This collection contains material on a board range of subjects (1966-1986). The bulk of the material consists of working files for books, magazine articles, television shows, and academic and government research which involved Emily Card. The material might be of particular interest to those researching the United States' policies on women's financial credit, the women's movement in the 1970's and early 1980's, and Ghana.
