Amy George-Hirons received her Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from Tulane with specializations in Mesoamerican Linguistics, Latin American Literature and Art History in 2004. Her dissertation research focused on a Maya language translation and adaptation of the Spanish version of "The Story of the Maiden Teodora," a tale taken from 1001 Arabian Nights. Dr. George-Hirons is currently revising her dissertation for publication, as well as working on research projects focusing on indigenous and creole Latin American adaptations of European conceptions of the zodiac, astrology and the medieval reportorio as a literary genre. She holds an M.A. in Latin American Studies from the University of Arizona, in Tucson (1998) and a B.A. in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Newcomb College (1995). Her teaching interests focus on basic language acquisition as well as indigenismo and colonial Latin American cultural studies. She has taught at the University of Kentucky and at Middlebury College's Summer Immersion Spanish School.
