Current Research Projects
Drawing on scripting theory, a popular heuristic in sociology of sexuality, this project explores how the intersection of feminism and black popular culture is a valuable location for sexual politics. Whereas many feminist texts focus on how media representations of sexualized black women are problematic, this study shows how a variety of black female celebrities offer intriguing new sexual scripts that deconstruct gendered double standards and debunk gendered sexual myths and stereotypes about black women.
