This course will examine the place of public opinion in the American political system and its impact on both campaigns and governance.  While the course will provide a historical foundation, the focus will remain on contemporary public policy debates.  The course will also explore the forces that shape voters’ social and political attitudes.  Through understanding the formation of public opinion, the course’s ultimate goal is to inform students on the creation of public policy.
