Richard Hutton has been part of the staff of the Dept. of Music for four years and is pleased to continue teaching in the .
At home in both the concert hall and the musical theatre stage, Mr. Hutton last was seen in Le Petit Theatre's Big Easy Award-winning production of "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas". He was the 2007 Big Easy and Marquee Award winner, Best Actor in A Musical, for his portrayal of Miguel de Cervantes in the JPAS production of "Man of La Mancha". Tulane Summer Lyric audiences have enjoyed his portrayals, including King Arthur in "Camelot", Toddy in Victor/Victoria, as the "Phantom" and as Emile De Becque in the award-winning "South Pacific", for which he again won the year's Big Easy Award as Best Actor. Mr. Hutton has participated in productions with the New Orleans Opera, in both stage productions and educational outreach programs and has been a featured soloist with the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans and the LPO in performances of Haydn's Mass in a Time of War (Lord Nelson), the St. John Passion of Johann Sebastian Bach and Handel's Messiah. He has also made recordings with the New Orleans Musica da Camera, Carmina Burana and The Cross of Red, available through Centaur Records and distributed internationally by HarmoniaMundi.
Mr. Hutton studied at Loyola University, New Orleans, The Manhattan School of Music, and additional study at SUNY, Potsdam. He was a student of the much-loved and highly regarded Newcomb educator Clara Del Marmol.
