Lurcy Grants

Lurcy Grants support research by faculty of the School of Liberal Arts. They can be used to help support individual faculty travel to research collections or to help pay for the costs of purchasing essential materials for faculty research.

A faculty member should submit a proposal describing how he or she will use the money and explaining its contribution to the faculty member's larger scholarly goals. Proposals for Lurcy grants follow the same guidelines as Center for Scholar grants, however, Lurcy grants are only given out once a year. Full guidelines are listed below. This year, Lurcy Grant proposals are due in early March. A progress report on the grant in due by the end of the fall semester following the completion of the grant.

Proposal submissions:  Send 6 hard copies to Dean Carole Haber, c/o Assistant Dean Tara Hamburg, SLA Dean’s Office, 102 Newcomb Hall, Tulane Univ.

Proposal contents and information:

1. Complete Cover Page
   
2. The narrative of the proposal should be 2 – 4 pages.
3. The proposal should also include a clear budget explaining the requested funds. We cannot fund the work of undergraduate or graduate assistants.
4. The proposal must include a recent c.v.
5. Please list all university and external grants that you have received or have applied for, including COR, Lurcy, and Phase II.  If a Lurcy grant was received previously, please include a progress report.
6. There is no limit on the requested budget, although the allocations will reflect the number of requests we receive and the money we have to divide.  Please be aware that, if your budget is so large that we cannot understand how an allocation of $2000-$3000 would support the completion of your work, we will not be able to fund it.
7. The grants should be used by one year after the grant has been awarded. If an extension is needed, a request should be sent to the Executive Committee explaining the reasons for the continuation of the funds.
