Visiting Assistant Professor
Professor Dr. Hodes received his P.h.D., in York University, Canada, 2011. Dr. Hodes was hired as a Visiting Assistant professor by Tulane in 2012 to teach the core Middle Eastern history courses. He was a joint hire between the Jewish studies department and the History department. For the Jewish studies department he has taught The Arab Israeli conflict, A History of Israel and A History of the Jewish people in Islamic lands from the birth of Islam to the Present. For the history department he has taught A History of Islam until 1400, a History of Islam from 1400 to the Present and A History of the Modern Middle East from 1750 to the Present.
Dr. Hodes is a passionate teacher and was nominated for a University Wide “Excellence in Teaching award” at York University. He has also been the recipient of several other academic awards as well as being a Visiting Research Fellow at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Hodes continues to teach the Arab Israeli conflict and other courses in the Jewish studies Department.
His primary research focus is on the Modern Middle East with an emphasis on Israel, the Arab Israeli conflict and Jewish Islamic relations. His secondary research focus is on India. His book, which has been accepted for publication by Mcgill-Queens University press entitled From India to Israel, will hopefully be in print by 2014.
