Associate Professor of Political Science
Professor Gary Remer received his BA and MA in Political Science at UCLA, graduating with highest honors. He continued his professional studies at UCLA, receiving a PhD in Political Science for his dissertation "Christ as Peitho: Classical Rhetoric and the Humanist Defense of Religious Toleration". He taught Political Science at California State University, Long Beach before coming to Tulane in 1990 as an Assistant Professor. Throughout his career, he has published three books and numerous articles and chapter contributions on rhetoric, political thought, and humanism. Since 2010, he has been an honoree of the Sizeler Fellowship from the Department of Jewish Studies at Tulane University. Professor Remer's courses have consisted of 'Political Thought in the West', 'Ancient and Medieval Political Theory', 'Transition to Modernity', 'The Bible as Political Theory', 'Rhetoric and Politics', 'American Political Theory', 'Liberalism and Conservatism', 'Introduction to Politics', and 'American Politics'.
