Russian Major:

The Russian major is housed in our Department. It requires 27 credits, or nine full classes, above Russian 2030. Courses that are taught in English in our Department, such as Tolstoy and Dostoevsky and Russian Art and Architecture, count toward the major, and students may petition for permission to use one course outside the department -- e.g. Russian History or Russian Politics -- toward the major as well. In addition, the Department looks with favor on transfer credit toward the major from summer and semester study at accredited U.S. and Russian universities.

You can find the Major and Minor information, as well as some student videos and a comic, below.

A second Slavic language — Czech, Polish, Ukrainian, or Serbo-Croatian — is offered on an occasional basis. However, it should be noted that these courses do not count toward the Russian major.

 Russia:

Study in Moscow or St. Petersburg! Our program actively encourages the qualified student of Russian to participate in summer and semester language study programs in Russia, and a number of our students have done so with great success. While Tulane does offer its own study abroad program in either Moscow or St. Petersburg Russia, the study abroad office and the Russian Department are happy to help the interested student work to go on alternative programs that may be better suited to a students' particular passion for Russia.

A number of our students have seized the opportunity to study abroad.  In fact, one of our Russian majors just spent the '10-'11 Academic Year in Vladimir, Russia.
