The Writing Center

What is it?

The Writing Studio is a free tutoring service that provides students with assistance on papers in the English language for most Tulane undergraduate courses.  The Writing Studio tutors can work with students on almost several general writing skills, including, but not limited to:

• Content
• Organization
• Language
• Punctuation
• Generation of Ideas
• Documentation

The Writing Studio aims to serve students at the undergraduate level by assisting them with essays for class. The Writing Studio is not a proofreading service. Writing Studio tutors do not review/edit the following:

• Essays written for Graduate/Professional classes, conferences, or publications
• Master’s or Doctoral theses
• Articles written for publication in the Hullabaloo, Gambit, Offbeat, etc…
• Application essays
• Personal statements
• Cover letters
• Take-home exams
• Essays written for classes in the Freeman School of Business at any level

Students making an appointment at the Writing Studio should:

• Provide their instructor’s e-mail address
• Arrive for the appointment at least five minutes in advance
• Bring a PRINTED copy of the essay
• Bring all materials related to the assignment (the assignment prompt, comments from the instructor, drafts, notes, peer review sheets, etc…)
• Be prepared to discuss the essay and answer the tutor’s questions about it
• Call at least one hour in advance if it becomes necessary to cancel the appointment

Either visit the front desk at the Tutoring Center, located in the Educational Resource Center (on the first floor of the Mechanical Engineering Building)

1:00p.m.--9:00p.m., Monday--Thursday

1:00p.m.--5:00p.m., Sunday

Closed Friday and Saturday

Closed during all University holidays

Closed during all English Department events
