Welcome to the website of the English Department at Tulane University. Here you will find information about our courses and programming offered through the department, professional biographies of our faculty, and descriptions of our undergraduate and graduate curricula. In addition to finding news about our current projects, you will be able to browse through some of our archived events and activities.
Our department has one of the strongest majors at the university, with many opportunities for small classes and close contact with our award-winning faculty. Majors can choose among several concentrations, including creative writing, global literature, and community service. Undergraduates and graduate students alike participate in a vibrant intellectual community, with activities ranging from special lectures by eminent scholars, event planning for the Great Writer series, publication of the literary magazine The Tulane Review, participation in the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta, career- and community-oriented internships, a certificate program in Digital Humanities and Archival Studies, and mentoring for employment and further education.
As Chair of the Department I have made it a personal priority to renew our relationships with our alumni. Look for our inaugural issue of the departmental newsletter which we will archive here on the website. We want to know where you are and what you have gone on to do with your careers and lives. If you are visiting us through this website, drop me a note (mollyr@tulane.edu) to tell us about your whereabouts. If you are visiting New Orleans, please call or come by my office for a cup of coffee!
With warm regards,
Molly Rothenberg
