Seasonal Flu and H1N1 Prevention Information



If you are experiencing flu symptoms, please call 504-862-8121 for information BEFORE coming to the Student Health Center.


H1N1 Vaccine information

The Student Health Center is currently out of stock of seasonal flu vaccines. However, H1N1 vaccines are now available at the Student Health Centerfor the following Tulane students:



  • All students who are pregnant
  • All students who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months of age
  • Any student who works in health care or comes into contact with high-risk populations
  • All students under age 25
  • Any student (regardless of age) with a medical condition such as asthma, heart conditions, diabetes, kidney disease or weakened immune system

Vaccines are available in the Student Health Center in the 1st floor conference room:


Monday, November 23rd from 9:00 am-3:00 pm

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 am-11:00 am

Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm


The Student Health Center will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th, 2009.

Flu Frequently Asked Questions


What can I do to stay healthy?

 

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • If you get sick, CDC recommends that you stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.

What are the symptoms of H1N1 flu in humans?

The symptoms of H1N1 flu in people are expected to be similar to the symptoms of regular human seasonal influenza and include:

  • Fever
  • Lethargy
  • Lack of appetite
  • Coughing
  • Some people with H1N1 flu also have reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.
