We are not permitted by law to disclose any medical information to a parent without the consent of the student unless the student is mentally incapacitated or threatens to harm himself/herself or someone else. If your son or daughter has reached the age of 18, their medical information is confidential. Breaking this confidentiality and releasing information to parents without permission is breaking the law. Confidentiality is an important first step for young adults to begin taking responsibility for their own health care. Your son or daughter may give permission for us to speak with you by completing this form.
The Student Health Center has a full service pharmacy. For more information please see our Pharmacy web page.
If your daughter/son has chronic medical problems, we recommend that you have his/her medical provider send us a copy of their medical record. This enables us to better coordinate care with your primary care health care provider. Please complete the online medical history form at myhealth.tulane.edu.
It is important for your student to be aware of their own medical problems including:
Immunizations are for entry into Tulane University. Please go to our Immunization page for more information. Vaccines are available by appointment at the Student Health Center.
If your son or daughter is under treatment for a chronic medical or mental health disorder:
Occasionally outbreaks of contagious diseases such as influenza, eye infections and gastrointestinal diseases occur among students on campus. The Student Health Center has a public health emergency response plan in place to respond to these events when they affect large numbers of students. We do not operate an overnight infirmary. We do provide self-care instructions via several mechanisms, provide after-hours physician on-call services directly to students and operate a state-of-the-art emergency medical and ambulance transport service. The Student Health Center as part of its response plan will expand hours and clinical staff as required to adequately respond to these public health emergency conditions. The Student Health Center has close working relationships with the Tulane hospital and emergency department and specialists from the Tulane School of Medicine and coordinates on-campus disease control efforts with local and state health departments.
Every student should have some basic medical supplies while at school including:
