Making an Appointment

To schedule an appointment to see a provider in Primary Care at the uptown Student Health Center, call 504-865-5255, press 1. You may also come to SHC to make an appointment. If available, you will be offered a same-day appointment. If there are no same-day appointments we will offer you the next available that works with your schedule.

For Downtown appointments, Women's Health or one of the other clinics, click here for contact information.

We are open 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays and some holidays for acute care that cannot wait until Monday morning clinic. If you are sick and not sure if you need to be seen, call primary care reception, 504 865-5255 ext 1, to have a nurse return your call. If you are sick and feel you need to be seen, please come as early as possible.

Urgent Issues

If you have an urgent problem please let the receptionist know so she can refer you/your call to a nurse. Often, students who are urgently ill will have a nurse evaluate them, provide care and arrange evaluation by a provider.

Illnesses that involve upper respiratory complaints, such as cold symptoms, sore throat, cough, congestion and suspected sinus infections will generally need to be evaluated by a nurse to help determine if an appointment with a physician is necessary.  If you would like to speak to a nurse before coming in, try our Nurse Triage service, click here for more information.

Checking in for an Appointment

For Primary Care, please check-in at the 2nd floor reception desk. Always arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment to best ensure you will be seen on time.

The SHC is located on Newcomb Place and Willow, Bldg # 92. If you need to use the elevator, please use the second entrance from Newcomb Place. Most students can access SHC by the first door via the stairs.
