Endowed chairs and professorships provide financial support that rewards distinguished scholars and teachers who have become nationally recognized in an academic discipline.
The minimum donation amounts currently required for Tulane endowed chairs and professorships generally are $1.5 million for a chair, $500,000 for a professorship for experienced faculty, and $100,000 for an early career professorship. Higher minimum donation amounts may be required for chairs or professorships in particular disciplines.

The Louisiana Board of Regents Support Fund (BRSF), administered by the Board of Regents (BOR) for the benefit of all the colleges and universities in Louisiana, offers matching funds for private gifts for faculty endowment support to reward and retain outstanding faculty.
The Board of Regents encourages submissions of $2 million chairs at a 40:60 ratio of Support Fund money to private donations. In order for an endowed chair to become eligible for these BRSF matching funds, Tulane must submit a proposal to the Board of Regents along with verification that the university has received at least $1,200,000 in private donations for the chair.
The awarding of funds by the BOR is a competitive process among institutions of higher learning throughout the state.Chair proposals are ranked by an independent distinguished team of out-of-state experts.Through the ranking process awards are made based on funds available; therefore matching funds are not guaranteed. Final awards consist of $800,000 in Support Fund money.
To qualify for BRSF matching funds for an endowed professorship, private contributions must total at least $60,000 with final awards consisting of $40,000 in Support Fund money. There is no assurance that Tulane will receive matching funds when it applies for them, as these funds are limited.
Please note:
The matching funds are not included in the minimum gift amount required to establish an endowed chair or professorship, but are in addition to the minimum amount (currently $1.5 million for an endowed chair, $500,000 for an endowed professorship, and $100,000 for an endowed early career professorship).
Also, minimum amounts for a chair or professorship in a particular discipline may be higher, so please discuss your plans to provide endowed faculty support with the dean and development officer for the school or college you wish to support.
