Applying for Aid:  School of Continuing Studies Undergraduate Students*

2014-15 General Requirements

A brochure briefly describing financial aid for School of Continuing Studies undegraduate students may be found here.

To be assured of consideration for federal financial aid before the beginning of the semester for which aid is sought, School of Continuing Studies undergraduate students* must be admitted at least six weeks prior to the beginning of the semester for which aid is sought, must complete the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at least six weeks prior to the beginning of the semester for which aid is sought, and must also complete all additional requirements (including requests that loans and other aid be processed) at least two weeks before the semester for which aid is sought.

Federal aid consideration is available for those who 1.) have a completed FAFSA sent to Tulane at least four weeks before the end of the semester for which aid is sought and 2.) complete all additional requirements (including requests that loans and other aid be processed) at least two weeks before the end of the semester for which aid is sought. Federal aid will not disburse until a financial aid file is complete. Please note that the deadline at Tulane for FAFSA receipt is at least four weeks before the end of the semester for which aid is sought: students whose FAFSA applications are not received at Tulane at least four weeks before the end of the semester for which aid is sought will not be reviewed for federal financial aid eligibility.

Students can complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov as early as January 1, and Tulane's school code for the FAFSA is 002029.

Additional requirements may include, for example, 2013 tax transcripts, signed copies of parents' 2013 federal tax returns, the student's 2013 federal tax return, parents' 2013 W-2 forms, student's 2013 W-2 forms and/or a completed Verification Worksheet. Other documents are required (for example, proof of citizenship, social security number or Social Security benefits) in some cases, and packaged aid must be accepted to be processed in virtually all cases. Certain other requirements must be completed for educational loans to be processed. Copies of required documents in most cases may be mailed (Tulane University Office of Financial Aid, 205 Science & Engineering Lab Complex, New Orleans, LA 70118), emailed as a scan (finaid@tulane.edu) or faxed (504.862.8750) to the Tulane University Financial Aid Office. Please note the student's name and identification number clearly on the documents and ensure that tax returns are signed; otherwise, a significant delay in processing may occur. Please note that the U.S. Internal Revenue Service website www.irs.gov provides how to obtain copies of tax transcripts, forms, instructions on obtaining copies of previously filed tax returns, and answers to frequently asked questions. Students and/or parents not required to file 2013 federal tax returns must complete and submit the appropriate Tulane 2014-2015 Non-Filer Worksheet. Students primarily enrolled at the School of Continuing Studies may be eligible for limited Tulane institutional scholarship funds, and therefore should check with officials at the School of Continuing Studies regarding possible scholarship availability.
