Summer aid for Combined Degree students (MD/MPH) is not automatic, and therefore, requires that in April or May, students must apply separately for summer aid.

How to Apply for Aid

 

AID FOR THE 2015-2016 ACADEMIC YEAR

STEP 1:

INCOMING
students, print the 2015 - 2016 Incoming Student FINANCIAL AID CHECKLIST for the School of Medicine and use this tool to complete all the necessary financial aid steps. Additionally, please read the 2015-2016 University Incoming Student Letter.

Continuing students should print the 2015 - 2016 Continuing Student FINANCIAL AID CHECKLIST for the School of Medicine and use this tool to complete all the necessary financial aid steps.

STEP 2:

Apply for aid. For U. S. citizens and permanent residents, there are initially only two applications that need to be completed. They are:
          1. Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Refer below to "FAFSA on the Web" information.
          2. School of Medicine 2015-2016 Financial Aid Addendum.

International students should only complete the Financial Aid Addendum. 


FAFSA on the Web

Tulane's school code for the FAFSA is 002029.

We encourage applicants to use The U. S. Department of Education’s FAFSA on the Web because applying on the Internet offers several advantages over the traditional paper application.

  • It's fast — Students will get their application results in 5 to 7 days. 
  • It's easy — Students are only asked the questions they need to answer. Questions that don't apply are skipped, making the Internet application easy to complete. Extensive on-line help is also available. Application entries are edited thoroughly, reducing the number of errors made by students and their families when completing the online FAFSA. 
  • It's secure — When FAFSA information is transmitted over the Internet, it is completely secure. The same technology that protects credit card transactions over the Internet is used to make sure that students' data remains confidential. Sending an application over the Internet is as safe as mailing a paper form.

STEP 3:

Check the Status of your Federal Application. Students can verify the status of their completed FAFSA by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov and selecting from the “FAFSA follow-up” menu. FAFSA applicants can also call The Department of Education to check their status at their toll-free line (1-800-4 FED AID or 1-800-433-3243).

STEP 4:

The TUHSC Office of Financial Aid reviews your file. Your financial aid eligibility will be based on your FAFSA data and other application materials. Please refer to the section on calculating need for more details as well as our School of Medicine Cost of Attendance information.

Randomly, applicants are selected by the federal processor for verification of information submitted on the FAFSA. Students selected will receive notification of such on the Student Activity Report (SAR) that the Department of Education sends to you after you complete your FAFSA. The documentation necessary for verification is the appropriate 2013 - 2014 Verification Worksheet (print the form, complete it, then sign it and mail it in). Additional documents may be required depending upon the information to be verified; please review the Verification Worksheet for details.

Students who were not required to file a federal tax return can complete the 2014-15 Student Non-Filer Form.

Medical students interested in qualifying for either a Primary Care Loan, or the Loan for Disadvantaged Students must submit the following:

  1. a signed copy of their parents’ 2014 federal tax return, or a 2015-16 Parent Non-Filer Form.
  2. a signed copy of his/her 2014 federal tax return, or a 2015-16 Student Non-Filer Form.
