Date Auction is a philanthropic showcase held annually that features dancing, video skits, and auctionee talents. Date Auction features VSAs (Vietnamese Student Associations) from all over the Gulf Coast Region including Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. This year, TUVA was chosen to host this event, and will be inviting these other universities to Tulane. Each school is required to have a 10 minute dance and video skit that is inspired by the year’s chosen theme. In addition, each school will present two auctionees who can perform any talent they choose, but is asked to fundraise with the support of their VSA, friends, and family to contribute to the annual Collective Philanthropy Project. The Collective Philanthropy Project this year is the Pacific Links Foundation. Their mission statement is as follows:“To support the sustainable development of Vietnamese communities and the enrichment of their cultural heritage and enhance the immediate and long-term response to the needs of trafficking survivors.” This year’s theme is Childhood TV Shows, and every school finds pride in displaying their hours of practice and planning. This year Mississippi and Alabama will be joining in Date Auction for the first time; making 2017 the first year ever that Date Auction will be a regional event. In addition, Tulane will be hosting Date Auction for the first time after 5 years, which is a huge honor, because TUVA is one of the smaller VSAs.
