Emergency Procedures
This page covers several reporting and response procedures for various threats and emergencies. Although Tulane does not anticipate all of these to occur, it is best to be prepared.
| EVACUATIONS (ALL) - Evacuate the building to the nearest exit.
- Do not use elevators!
- Take personal belongings (keys, purses, wallets).
- Secure hazardous materials and equipment before leaving.
- Assist persons with disabilities.

| EARTHQUAKE / EXPLOSION - Drop, cover and hold under a table or desk or against an inside wall - not in a doorway - until the shaking stops.
- Check for injuries of yourself and others; move toward the nearest exit.
- Evacuate the building.
- Tune in. Call Tulane AlertLine 504-862-8080.

| FIRE - Activate an alarm nearest you and call Tulane Public Safety.
- Evacuate the building to a safe location.
- Do not enter the building until authorized.
- Report the incident to the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.

| HAZARDOUS MATERIALS - If an emergency or anyone is in danger call Tulane Public Safety.
- Evacuate from the hazard site to a safe location.
- Do not return to the site area until authorized.

| SEVERE WEATHER / TORNADOES - Stay informed.
- Move to a safe place.

| POWER OUTAGE - Stay calm; assist others if necessary.
- Turn off & unplug computers and other voltage sensitive equipment.
- Move cautiously to a lighted area.

| SUSPICIOUS OBJECT / MAIL - Do not touch.
- Isolate it.
- Evacuate the immediate area.
