Tulane University has partnered with ALERTUS notification systems to provide a unique and important tool for members of the Tulane community.
With the ALERTUS software installed on your computer, you gain the ability to receive emergency notifications from the university. When a text or e-mail message is issued, the ALERTUS software receives the message from University servers and captures the computer screen with the text of the alert. Users must then acknowledge the message before returning to their computers.
ALERTUS will run on a Mac or PC, and once installed, automatically connects to our emergency notification servers. The tool is great for students, faculty, and staff who take advantage of the Tulane network. Please note the software only works when connected to the Tulane network through wired or wireless connections.
Installation is quick and easy, and takes just a few minutes. Once installed, the software runs quietly in the background and you can verify it is connected by checking the icon in the System Tray of your operating system.

What operating systems are supported?
The Alertus Desktop software client was designed to run on a computer running on Windows or Mac.
Windows Supported Versions: Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. Although not officially supported, it should work with earlier Windows versions if version 2.0 or later of the .NET framework is installed.Mac Supported Versions: 10.5 (leopard), 10.6 (snow leopard), 10.7 (lion)
Does the installed software send any information to the server?
Yes, but only in an emergency alert, and the information transmitted is simply an acknowledgement of receipt of the emergency message. When displaying an alert, the software includes a prominently placed "Acknowledge" button. Once pressed, this button indicates to the server that a recipient was notified. After an alert is activated, all of this information is automatically collected, tabulated, and presented for feedback to emergency management personnel.
Will ALERTUS work from my home?
No. The software is only designed to work within Tulane's network (wired and wireless). The software receives information from a server within Tulane's network, which is only accessible if you are accessing the Internet through a Tulane supported wired or wireless connection.
