Why did Tulane select Microsoft Live@EDU?

In order to provide the highest level of collaboration and communication between Faculty, Staff, and Students, it was determined that Microsoft Live@EDU provided the best integration within our current environment, as well as the flexibility needed for future projects. The process of moving to Live@EDU began in early 2009, and multiple solutions were considered before selecting Microsoft.

In Summer 2011, the contract for Live@EDU was extended to include Faculty and Staff in the hosted email solution.

Who tested the new email system before it was "live"?

There have been several testing periods for the Live@TU system. In Fall 2010, the student implementation was tested by several Technology Services student workers.

For the Faculty and Staff migration, several members of Technology Services have been using the WaveMail system as their primary email source for several months. In addition, several Faculty and Staff members that were willing to be early adopters have been migrated and are working with Technology Services support personnel on any issues they may experience.

Can I still access my Tulane Webmail (Exchange) account?

Student mailboxes on the Tulane Webmail (Exchange) system were deleted February 1, 2011.

Faculty and Staff will be able to access their Tulane Webmail until January 1, 2011. You can access your old email at http://owa.tulane.edu and clicking "Login to Webmail", or by continuing to use an email client (Outlook, Entourage, etc) that is configured for Exchange. You can also have both accounts configured within Outlook or Entourage, but once your WaveMail account is activated, new messages will only be delivered to the WaveMail account.

How long can I access my old emails on the Tulane Exchange system?

Beginning January 1, 2011, students will no longer be able to check messages from Tulane Exchange Outlook Web Access located at http://owa.tulane.edu. System administrators will activate all accounts which have not yet been activated. All new student email will be delivered to the WaveMail accounts. Students will need to go into their old webmail account and manually move any messages, folders, contacts, and calendar events to their new WaveMail account before the old system is deactivated.

Why is the email system being migrated during the semester?

In order to ensure the maximum amount of communication about the new email system was received by students, the announcement at the beginning of the semester was the best way. It also provides the maximum amount of support coverage for any questions that may arise during student migration.
