Why do I have to enter my country, state, and zip code to use Live@EDU features?

Microsoft does require your location information to use the Alumni Email for Life email; if you do not want to enter your personal information, please enter the location information for Tulane University:

Must I provide my year of birth to access the optional features such as the SkyDrive or the social network?

Microsoft requires the year of birth to access the optional features as they have implemented controls to prevent underage users from accessing certain features without parental consent. If you have provided a year of birth that implies that you are not a legal adult, (18 years old), you will have to verify your status as an adult by providing a credential, such as a credit card, to gain full access.
