How do I change the name displayed for my account?

The WaveMail address book displays your name exactly as it appears in the Tulane University Student system. For more information, please visit the Knowledge Base.

What is my WaveMail address?

Your WaveMail address will be: tulaneusername@tulane.edu where 'tulaneusername' is your Tulane University username.

When you send email from your WaveMail account, the ‘from’ email address will indicate tulaneusername@tulane.edu.

What are the limits on WaveMail accounts?

The WaveMail mailbox is limited to 10 GB; once 9 GB are used, you will begin receiving warnings that your mailbox is reaching capacity.

The Skydrive is limited to 25 GB.

WaveMail email does limit the total number of recipients that you can mail in one day to 500 recipients per day and the total number of messages that can be sent per minute to 30 messages per minute.

I'm covered by HIPAA. Do I get a new WaveMail account?

Yes and No.

WaveMail accounts are not under the transmission security requirements provided by the Tulane email system. Due to HIPAA and other regulations, we are required to secure the transmission of protected health information. Because of this, personnel covered by HIPAA will continue to use their existing Tulane Webmail (Exchange) accounts for email.

However, these covered personnel will be able to access the other features available within Live@TU, such as the 25 GB SkyDrive, Office Live, and the social network. Once a student in the School of Medicine graduates or leaves the university, they can begin using the mail feature within WaveMail for the lifetime of the account.

We recommend that HIPAA covered personnel go through the activation process. This will grant them access to SkyDrive, Office Live and the social network. However, you will continue to use the Tulane Webmail system for email.

I'm trying to send an email and get an error message that I have too many recipients.

You are only allowed 500 email recipients to whom you can send messages each day, and only 100 recipients per message. If you are emailing a group of recipients on a regular basis, please create a distribution list for that group. By using a distribution list, that list counts as only a single recipient.

I'm trying to send an email and get an error message that I can no longer send.

There is a daily limit of 500 total recipients to whom you can email. If you have not already emailed 500 recipients, then it is possible that someone else has obtained your username and password and is using your account to spam others. Have you accidentally responded to a phishing email recently? Please change your password via PSync to ensure that no one else can use your account in the future. Unfortunately, you may have to wait until tomorrow to send the email message.

What is the naming convention for email addresses?

Naming Convention for Email Addresses (Prior to Oct 1, 2010)

Tulane email addresses are created according to the name obtained from official employee or student records. The standard naming convention is 8 characters and as follow:

First-initial + First 7 characters of the Last-name @tulane.edu

If an address is already in use, the naming convention is changed to “First-initial + First 6 characters of the last-name + number @tulane.edu” to make it unique. Examples of this naming convention are jsmith@tulane.edu, jsmith1@tulane.edu, and jsmith2@tulane.edu or jwilliam@tulane.edu, jwillia1@tulane.edu, and jwillia2@tulane.edu

How do I change the Time Zone in WaveMail?

Log in to http://outlook.com.
Click Options.
Select Settings, then Regional.
The Current Time Zone is listed. Select the new one, click Save.
