About WaveMail

What is WaveMail?

WaveMail is the email component of Live@TU, a partnership between Tulane University and Microsoft's Live@EDU program. Live@TU is hosted by Microsoft and includes optional features, such as a 25 GB SkyDrive, Office Live, and a social network.

Please note that the optional features are not supported by Tulane University Technology Services.

Please use Live@TU Responsibly!

Refer to the University's official Student Guidelines for Responsible Computing and comply with these guidelines at all times.

When will WaveMail be implemented?

WaveMail was implemented as the new student email system for the Fall 2010 semester.

Faculty and Staff will be migrated beginning July 15, 2011. The migration is expected to last 3-4 months. Access to the existing system will remain in place until January 1, 2012.

HIPAA covered personnel, BES, and some CommVault users will remain within the existing Tulane email environment during this migration. Technology Services will announce plans for these users in the Fall 2011 semester.

What internet browsers work with WaveMail?

Technology Services has tested WaveMail with:

  • Internet Explorer 7, 8, 9
  • Safari
  • Firefox
  • Chrome

Please click here for information on which specific features may not be available with non-IE browsers.

Please note:
Please enable pop-ups on your browser to use the full feature set of the Outlook web application. If you prefer not to allow pop-ups, you may use the light version of the Outlook web application.

What happens to my WaveMail account when I graduate?

Nothing! Your WaveMail account is yours for life. After 1 year of graduation, your WaveMail will be disconnected from the Tulane system, thus requiring you to manage your WaveMail password through WaveMail as opposed to PSync.

What happens to my WaveMail account if I stop taking classes for a year or so?

If you leave the University prior to graduating, your account will be active for 1 year. After this time, the WaveMail account will be deleted. Should you choose to return, your account will be re-enabled.

Can I reference entries in the Tulane Webmail (Exchange) Global Address List (GAL)?

Yes, we will employ synchronization technologies so that all the entries in the Tulane Webmail GAL are also in the WaveMail GAL, and vice versa.

I'm not receiving some of my email. What do I need to do?

WaveMail will group messages that are from the same sender or that have the same subject, and indicate this using a gold diamond icon. If you see this, click the gold diamond to expand the list of messages. This feature can be customized:

  1. Go to Options.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Make changes under the Conversations heading.

If you still think you are missing email, please contact the Tulane Help Desk at (504) 862-8888 or 1-866-276-1428.

Can I add/change alias addresses in WaveMail?

For students, we are not supporting the addition of alias addresses within the WaveMail system. The only address supported will be tulaneusername@tulane.edu.

Faculty/Staff will continue to receive tulaneusername@tulane.edu and first.lastname@tulane.edu

I forward my @tulane.edu email to Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail or another email service. Will this forward still work?

No. You will need to set up a new forward in your WaveMail account. Use these directions as a guide.

Forward WaveMail to another account

However, the University strongly encourages you to use your existing WaveMail account to check your incoming messages. WaveMail offers many of the same advantages as other email services such as a 10GB inbox, 25GB online storage and calendar functions.

How do I log into WaveMail?

You can log into WaveMail via http://outlook.com.
