During the 2013-2014 academic year, CPS conducted research to learn more about the ways a place-based engagement strategy could improve the effectiveness of our partnerships. After mapping the locations of civic engagement by Tulane students in the 2012-2013 academic year and layering them with community characteristics and needs, the initial maps indicated the corridor between Tulane’s Uptown and Downtown campuses (generally the Freret, Broadmoor, and Central City neighborhoods) is an area that deserves coordinated and strategic attention because of its close proximity, the level of need, existing assets, including current partnerships, and a high level of engagement. As such, all of the Tulane AmeriCorps Fellows will be placed at community organizations within this service corridor.
Fellows will work at their partner site, in the corridor described above, four days per week (Monday-Thursday). Fellows will also serve as liaisons between Tulane and the partner agencies. At this point, specific agencies have not been selected. As partners are selected, this information, in including organzation info and job descriptions, will be added to this page.
