Fellowship Background

The Aspen Institute’s Franklin Project is challenging institutions of higher education to join them in creating a “21st-century system of national service that calls upon every young person to serve.” The Franklin Project outlines the need for engagement opportunities that go beyond community service and curricular service-learning programs. They are calling upon universities to develop national service programs that engage students or graduates in a year-long, full-time service experience.  Together with the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Franklin Project,  Tulane University has developed the Tulane AmeriCorps Fellows Program in order to provide more opportunities to students to stay engaged in the local community beyond their university career.
