Jim Runsdorf, a Tulane alumnus, fell in love with New Orleans' charm and history. After graduating in 1986, Jim returned to New York and received a Masters degree in Real Estate from New York University. Like so many others enchanted by New Orleans, Jim was devastated by the disaster Hurricane Katrina wreaked on his former home. Tragically, Jim's own life was cut short when he was killed in a boating accident at the age of 41. He died doing something he loved—rowing—a hobby he had discovered while at Tulane.
Jim was a dedicated friend, trusted confidant, and mentor to younger business associates. He was outgoing, fun, and good looking with a great sense of humor. Jim was a devoted son, brother, husband and father of two. Inspired by Jim's dedication to public service and New Orleans, the Runsdorf family established the Jim Runsdorf Charitable Foundation, supporting causes in cities important to Jim.
Established by Lee and Lucette Runsdorf in memory of their son, the award identifies and recognizes students who demonstrate social responsibility and awareness of community needs through significant contributions to the New Orleans community.
