Descriptions: Puentes New Orleans is a community-developement non-profit focused on building assets and creating access for the latino community of the New Orleans area. Puentes envisions an integrated New Orleans area where Latinos are vital participants. Puentes runs a housing program which provides training and credit counseling in Spanish for first-time homebuyers. Participant in the program are individuals and couples seeking to build wealth for their family's future and develop financial security by purchasing a home in the New Orleans area.
In 2009 over 100 individuals and couples participated in the Puentes Homebuyer training, and of those 5 bought homes. Other participants are saving money and getting their credit in order before taking the next steps to buy a home. The Housing Client Liaison Intern will work directly with the Puentes Housing coordinator to stay in touch with past participants, track their progress towards homeownership, and connect them with additional resources that Puentes can provide. The intern will make phone calls to housing program participants, most of whom speak Spanish primarily, to check and record their progress. The intern will also be responsible for creating prcedures and documents to aid in long-term tracking of homebuyer class participants. The intern will need to be fluent in conversational Spanish in order to conduct phone calls, so this is perfect either for a native speaker or a student returning from abroad who would like to maintain Spanish speaking and listening skills.
Product of Partnership: Information and documents to track progress of hombuyer course participants' progress towards homeownership
