Final Product Special Instructions:If you want to improve the quality of life of New Orleans African-American public school children, Lafayette Academy is the place for you. Most of our students read below grade level which hinders their progress in all subjects. Reading with a student for an hour a week can make a difference.

Requirements

Background Checks is Required. They must fill out a form which the school will cover the cost of administering.
The CP requests emergency contact information.If there is a medical emergency...
Evaluations/surveys will be requested by community partner to be completed by students.
I ask the volunteers to complete an evaluation form at the end of the semester. I find ways to improve the partnership in the future.
Students are not allowed to take pictures or video.

Location and Travel

They can work in the library, in Room 108 or anywhere in the school that is quiet and appropriate.
Transportation options:10 minute bike ride

Supervision and Risk

Check-in at the site: They sign in and out on a form kept in my office, Room 108. We are hoping to computerize the check-in process.
Students track their hours at site: They simply need to check their volunteer sheet.
Students will work unsupervised:They will work one-on-one with their students without direct supervision, but I will be in contact throughout the year with the students, teachers and volunteers.
