Descriptions: Each research cycle encompasses a 4-6 month period of intensive formative and ethnographic research about the target population, which involves secondary data analysis, participant observation, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions. Following this period, NHBS staff conducts 4-5 months of primary data collection, which involves administering 45 minute anonymous surveys and HIV tests to 500+ randomly selected persons in the target population. Intravenous drug users (IDU) are the target population for the upcoming research cycle. Zoe Clements would assist NHBS staff by helping with the formative and ethnographic research portion of the upcoming IDU research cycle. Her duties will include: surveying current research on the IDU population; assisting in conducting interviews with community gatekeepers, key informants, and the target population; helping NHBS staff prepare for focus groups; and conducting area observations in the New Orleans MSA.
