art/literacy activity coordinator at Kids Culinary Camp

Basic Information

Contact: Lucy Rosenbloom
Keywords: literacy reading kids children camp food cooking history museum art
Descriptions: The Southern Food & Beverage Museum Kids Culinary Camp is a free half-day cooking camp for kids in 2nd through 5th grade. The camp aims to teach nutritional literacy and the importance of home cooking. Each day the campers learn a new recipe and prepare (and eat!) their own lunch, participate in fun physical activity, learn a bit about nutrition, and do a craft project where they write the recipe in their cookbook. A primary goal of the Kids Culinary Camp is to improve the campers? reading and writing skills through the creation of a cookbook with all the recipes that the kids learn each week. The art/literacy activity coordinator will lead the campers in writing the daily recipe in their cookbook, talk a bit about the history of the food, and facilitate a small arts and crafts activity for the cookbook. The camp is from 9am-noon each day. All Kids Culinary Camp interns will be involved in planning and helping to create the camp curriculum/activities as well as getting to spend the day with the kids!
