Homework Help Assistant

Basic Information

Contact: Michele Jean Pierre
Descriptions: The Public Service Intern will serve as Homework Help Assistant (HHA) and be housed in the Computer Lab of the EMCM. For students who need additional assistance and a quiet location with no distractions, the Listening Library will also be utilized by the HHA. The HHA's main job is to asstist students (age 8 - 18) academically in whichever subjects the students are seeking improvement. The tutor must evaluate the student's progress to make sure the student is receiving enough attention and assistance during the one hour session. The HHA should always try to motivate the student and provide them with confidence. Students need to have positive feedback from the tutor to feel successful and get work done. The HHA must also assist the student to develop study skills specifically tailored to the student. A good HHA must be able to assist a student to breakdown complex issues as a way to assist them in the learning process.
Product of Partnership: A one page summary of the Intern's experiences in working with enrolled students of the EMCM. The summary should include input of how we can improve the experience for future students.
