Descriptions: YMCA Educational Services (YES!)seeks interns to tutor adults who function below the 9th grade level. All work is performed under the supervision of YMCA staff at the YES! Learning Center at the Main Branch of the Public Library. Interns will be asked to assist with one-on-one tutoring and small group work in basic math and reading. The is an ideal position for someone seeking hands-on experience with an economically disadvantaged population. Interns will also gain basic working knowledge of the daily operations of a non-profit programs.
Product of Partnership: An volunteer tutor training manual to better reflect the needs of first-time tutors. As we incorporate more community volunteers, we need a training manual that is clear, relevant,and based directly on our interns' experience working in our program.
