Descriptions: Service learners' primary responsibility is to provide academic support for students and teachers in classrooms. They are not responsible for delivering or teaching material, but they will reinforce material that is taught in the classroom. Additionally, service learners will form bonds with students and provide positive role models. By volunteering at Wilson Charter School, Tulane students will learn about child development, students' social and emotional needs, classroom management, mentoring, and the charter school culture in New Orleans. They will also become familiar with K-8 curricula, grade-level expectations, Louisiana's state education standards, and the "community school" philosophy. Most importantly, students will learn how to connect with and empower our youth.
