Neighborhood Communications Development Intern

Descriptions: Beacon of Hope Resource Center partners with neighborhood associations across New Orleans to offer assistance in recovery and revitalization strategies and best practices in neighborhood organizing. Beacon of Hope seeks a motivated student intern to aid in the development of a "Neighborhood Communications Model" for neighborhood leaders with varying levels of computer and internet skills to implement in their current neighborhood association. Intern will work directly with Beacon of Hope's Neighborhood Coordinator to assess current communication practices of neighborhood associations in Beacon's service areas (Gentilly, Lakeview, Hollygrove-Dixon, Carrollton, and Lower 9th Ward). Intern will then research best practices in neighborhood communications with a mix of online and on-the-ground communication approaches. Based on neighborhood assessments and best practice research, intern will develop a communication prototype that can be easily duplicated in neighborhoods across the City with varying degrees of computer and internet capability and at little to no cost for the organization. The model should include the following: basic blog or website template tailored to fit the needs of a neighborhood organization, an email communication system integrated with a traditional phone-tree model, a shared online calendar, template for printed materials, and a shared document system.
Product of Partnership: Intern's final project: leading a workshop for neighborhood leaders on the Neighborhood Communications Model. Intern will present the prototype materials to neighborhood leaders and will aid in the setup of the model for each neighborhood.
