M. Casey Love received her Ph.D. from Tulane University in 2005. Her research and teaching interest include U.S.- Latin American politics, immigration, International relations, and comparative politics. Offering information about legal rights to immigrants at a detention center, tutoring Spanish-speaking workers in English and computer skills, and producing podcasts on immigration issues are among the service-learning projects in Love's Politics of Immigration, Mexican Politics and Government, and Latin American International Relations courses.
In addition to implementing service learning into her own courses, Love is coordinator of public service internships for the political science department. She's also on the Center for Public Service Faculty Advisory Board.
Love also is the co-director of the Altman Program in International Studies and Business.
Vicki Mayer received her Ph.D. from the University of California – San Diego in 2000. Her research and teaching areas include media production and consumption, Brail, Latinos, cultural citizenship, identity, media industries and labor. As a service-learning practitioner, she taught and continues teaching multiple service-learning courses, partnering with a variety of local organizations. During the 2010-11 academic year, Mayer was one of the recipients of the Community-Based Research Grant from the Center for Public Service, allowing her to establish MediaNola, a project that connects her research, teaching, undergraduates and the public at large. Numerous service-learning classes partner and contribute to MediaNola every semester.
Beth Wee serves as the Co-Director of the Undergraduate and Masters Program in Neuroscience. Dr. Wee received her Ph.D. in 1986 from Michigan State University. She is is a neuroscientist whose research interests include biological rhythms (seasonal and circadian), neuroendocrinology, reproduction, learning and memory, and animal behavior. Currently, Beth is active in the School of Science and Engineering as the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies.
Michael Cunningham holds a joint faculty appointment in Department of Psychology and the undergraduate program in African & African Diaspora Studies. Dr. Cunningham completed his doctoral work at Emory University after completing an undergraduate degree at Morehouse College. He also received a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania before joining Tulane's faculty in 1996. As a Developmental Psychologist, Dr. Cunningham's research examines adolescent development with a particular focus on resilience and vulnerability within African American populations. His publications highlight how gender and socioeconomic context are associated with typical developmental processes that inform outcomes such as academic achievement or mental health vulnerabilities. He currently serves on several editorial boards for top journals in the filed (Developmental Psychology and Human Development). Dr. Cunningham was nominated as the Executive Director for the newly created Center for Engaged Learning and Teaching that will launch pilot operations in Spring 2011.
