Public Service at Tulane has a long and rich history. Faculty, staff, and student members have been actively engaged in civic and research activities that link Tulane with communities outside the university, including faculty-driven programs such as Academic Service Learning and research, student-initiated community service, and staff-supervised community activities. These partnerships have run the gamut of experiences from as near as the university's immediate neighbors in New Orleans to partners in other countries.
In 2006, Tulane's Renewal Plan offered an opportunity to coalesce campus resources to found the Center for Public Service. The Center is dedicated to supporting the university's diverse community-based research and service activities as well as serving as an intellectual and physical space for sustained university/community partnerships.
