Damage to or Loss of Student Personal Property

The University does not provide insurance coverage for the loss, theft, disappearance, damage or destruction of a student's personal property. For students residing in University residence halls, the campus housing contract specifically states that the University shall not be liable for the personal property of a student that is damaged, destroyed, stolen or lost regardless of where such property may usually be kept, used or stored.

Students who are considered to be residents of their parents' household may have coverage (subject to a deductible) under the parents' homeowners policy or could obtain coverage through an endorsement to that policy. Students without coverage under a homeowners' policy are encouraged to obtain renters' insurance. One option to explore is through CSI, which can provide "All Risk" coverage (including flood) that will pay for loss of or damage to your personal property and in many cases is much broader than a homeowners' policy or typical renters' policy.

TO LESSEN THE LIKELIHOOD OF LOSS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY, REMEMBER TO ALWAYS LOCK YOUR DOOR!
