New Orleans School-Based Clinics

Faculty and clinical staff also provide services at 10 schools across the metropolitan New Orleans area. These services range from health screenings, counseling, education, communicable disease prevention, immunizations, treatment of minor illnesses and injuries, follow-up of existing health conditions, and physical exams. Examples of the more comprehensive programs follow.


Walter L. Cohen High School Student Health Center

Walter L. Cohen High School is a school-based health center near Central City, one of the most high risk neighborhoods in the city. Students can be seen by appointment or on a walk-in basis. The site offers immunizations, annual exams, health education, and mental health services including individual, group and family counseling.


West Jefferson High School Based Health Center

West Jefferson High School Based Health Center launched its services in November 2007. The staff includes a doctor, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, medical office assistant, social worker, and receptionist. Referral to a psychiatrist is available through the Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority. Services offered include full-spectrum primary care including acute care, physicals, screening, immunizations, counseling, and patient education.
