Reality-Tested Tips for Achieving LGBT Equity & Inclusion

Shane Snowdon, an expert on LGBT concerns in medical education, currently heads the LGBT Health and Aging Program at the Human Rights Campaign. She previously led the UCSF Center for LGBT Health & Equity for 13 years. Shane will discuss best practices in creating a truly LGBT-welcoming medical school climate. What institutional policies should be in place? What messages should leaders send? How can admissions and hiring maximize LGBT equity? What activities best support LGBT students, staff, and faculty—and help their colleagues become more knowledgeable, sensitive, and comfortable? This engaging talk will provide an overview of what medical schools nationwide are doing to ensure equity and enhance their climate from an LGBT standpoint.
