The Beatles are Coming

Tulane Lifelong Learning presents Lecture and Book Signing of: Beatles for Sale on Parlophone Records

featuring Bruce Spizer

Date: Tuesday, October 30, 2012
Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Building: Alumni House, 6319 Willow Street corner Calhoun
Location: uptown campus

Please join us for a presentation and booksigning with New Orleans-based Beatles expert and Tulane graduate, Bruce Spizer, featuring his new book, Beatles for Sale on Parlophone Records. Beatles For Sale on Parlophone Records covers all of the singles, albums and extended play discs issued by the Beatles in the U.K. from 1962 through 1970. Each record is given a separate chapter, which tells the stories behind how the songs appearing on the disc were written and recorded. The chapters also detail how the records were marketed and contain sales and chart information.

The book has chapters on the history of EMI and Parlophone Records, how records are mastered and manufactured, how EMI contracted with other record companies to press Beatles singles and albums to help meet demand, British radio and record charts in the sixties and other record-related topics. The book has over 700 illustrations, all in either color or original black and white. Bruce Spizer has served as a consultant to EMI and Apple Records for their CD re-releases of the American configurations of the Beatles catalog.  He wrote the text for the companion booklet for the 2006 box set The Capitol Albums, Volume 2,  and for the "catalography" that accompanies the 2009 "Box of Vision" release.

He was also chosen to write 2,592 questions for a special Beatles edition of the Trivial Pursuit board game. Bruce Spizer has appeared on television programs such as CBS's The Early Show,  Fox News, and Good Morning America,  and on the National Public Radio news program All Things Considered.  He has been cited as a Beatles authority in print publications such as Rolling Stone, The Guardian,  the New York Times,  and Time.
