 Galeet Dardashti
Performance and Lecture on Mizrachi Jewish singing.
Middle Eastern vocalist and composer Galeet Dardashti continues her family tradition of distinguished Persian and Jewish musicianship.  She recently completed her Ph.D. in anthropology on the performance of contemporary Mizrahi and Arab music in Israel.  Dasdashti’s visit is co-sponsored by the Dorothy Beckemeyer Skau Art and Music Fund, Tulane Hillel and the Department of Jewish Studies .
Dardashti will demonstrate the melismatic vocal ornaments present in Mizrachi Jewish music and Persian classical music.
