Musical tribute by The Next Generation and special guests. Concert begins at 5 pm with reception to follow at 6 pm. Free and open to the public. Battiste will be feted by former jazz students in a celebration of his life. Battiste is a retired musician, arranger and music educator who served as the musical director for Sam Cooke, Sonny & Cher, Dr. John and many others. He will sign copies of his memoir, "unfinished blues: Memories of New Orleans Music Man" at the reception. Event is a collaboration by Tulane's Jazz Studies program and the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South through its Music Rising program.
