Student Exhibition of Work Inspired by Audre Lorde

This event is part of Audre Lorde Week

Date: Thursday, February 6, 2014
Time: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
Building: Lavin-Bernick Center (LBC) in Room 212
Location: uptown campus

This day-long exhibition will include panels, paper presentations, art displays, short film screenings, performances and more to highlight the work that Tulane students are producing at the intersections of race, class, sexuality, and gender.  It is 100% student-led, organized, and moderated. Sponsored by the Queer Feminist Collective (QFC), Black Student Union (bSU), and Vagina Monologues

Tulane University’s Audre Lorde Week is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and community members to come together to “develop tools for using human difference as a springboard for creative change.”  Like the work of Lorde herself, the experiences planned for the week combine critical analysis and love, lyricism and research, as well as struggle and collaboration (1) to address the ways in which inequity, bias, discrimination, alienation, and violence undermine our individual, collective and planetary health and (2) to develop holistic analyses and strategies for fueling well-being, justice, and positive social change. Central to the week’s events will be a consideration of how students, researchers, faculty, staff, and communities can create meaningful, reciprocal, accountable, and thriving relationships within the context of racism, sexism, heteronormativity, economic disparity, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and town/gown divides.  Admission to all events is free and open to the public!  Audre Lorde Week is co-sponsored by Tulane University’s Office for Gender and Sexual Diversity (OGSD), Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning (CELT), Newcomb College Institute (NCI), Black Student Union (bSU), Queer Feminist Collective (QFC), and the Vagina Monologues.  For more information contact: OGSD at 504-314-2183.
